COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater woman who was charged with five counts after she allegedly shot her daughter during an argument in their home last January 26 has turned down a plea agreement with prosecutors so as of Monday, her case is set to go to trial in Branch County Circuit Court.
65-year-old Kathleen Annette Rowe is facing charges of discharging a firearm in a building causing serious impairment, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and felony firearm.
A plea hearing was scheduled for Monday morning in Circuit Court. Terms of the rejected plea agreement were not announced. A trial date has not been scheduled yet but Branch County Prosecutor Zach Stempien expects it will be scheduled for sometime after the first of the year.
Rowe’s 33-year-old daughter, Kacey Stringer, was shot in the abdomen. Stringer was taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne where she stayed for over two weeks after she was shot.
Rowe was arrested after the shooting on Pamela Drive just north of State Street. She claimed self-defense when she was interviewed by police.
Stringer testified during a District Court preliminary exam she made no threats against her mother.
