UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Village of Union City announced in a Facebook posting Thursday morning that the village has been awarded $850,000 from the Michigan D.N.R. Spark Grant for a pedestrian bridge as part of the “River’s Path: Connecting Parks, Bridging Communities” project.
This project will build the bridge over the Union City Historic Water Trail on the St Joseph River and connect the Riverview Park with the Heritage Cultural Park.
There will also be lighted ADA compliant walkways and access to the bridge and parks. The bridge will be for pedestrians only and will have a treated timber deck along with a weathered steel structure. The project will be totally funded by the grant.
Village officials say the project will bolster use of recreational outdoor areas and add much needed accessibility.
Details are being finalized but it’s anticipated this project will be complete by the fall of 2025.
