BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – An ordinance that allows for the use of golf carts in the City of Bronson was adopted Monday night by the Bronson City Council on a 4-1 vote.
The ordinance was drafted by City Attorney Chuck Lillis, Bronson Police Chief Stephen Johnson and City Manager Brandon Mersman.
Lillis pointed out it was better to pass an ordinance instead of a resolution.
The only no vote was cast by Larry McConn.
The ordinance closely follows state statutes. Golf carts have to be registered with the City. Drivers must be at least 16-years-old and possess a valid driver’s license.
The speed limit would be 15 miles per hour and golf carts can only be operated during daylight hours. There will be no riding of golf carts on U.S. 12 but they may cross U.S. 12 where there is a 4-way stop light.
Penalties would be treated as civil infractions. The first violation would be a $100 fine. The second and subsequent violations would result in fines of $150.
