NOBLE TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A 62-year-old man was found dead on Thursday afternoon in a pole barn that was destroyed in a Noble Township fire.
Bronson Fire Chief Scott Wilber reports the Bronson Fire Department was dispatched by Branch County Central Dispatch to 842 Whipple Road just after 3:30 p.m. on a report of an explosion and smoke in the area.
Fire crews arrived to find a 30X40 pole barn and two pickup trucks outside the barn fully engulfed in flames. Once the flames were knocked down, firefighter discovered the man’s body.
The victim’s name has not been released.
The Orland Fire department provided a tanker. Lifecare Ambulance, The Branch County Sheriff’s Department, and the Michigan State Police also responded.
The building valued at $40,000 and contents valued at $30,000 were called a total loss. Wilber says 8,000 gallons of water were used to extinguish the blaze.
Bronson firefighters were on scene for five-and-a-half hours. According to Wilber, the cause of the accidental fire is undetermined due to the amount of damage.
