COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Canvassers certified election results Wednesday, but one race may not be done yet.
Dan Corwin told the board he will demand a recount of his three vote loss to Scott Houtz on Tuesday for a fourth ward seat on the Coldwater City Council. The final numbers had Houtz winning 143-140. Corwin indicated there maybe an issue with the new voting machines and that all of the votes were not counted.
Branch County Clerk Terry Kubasiak said four spoiled ballots in the fourth ward had to be reissued to voters on Tuesday. Eventually, all four of the voters had their ballots counted.
Corwin has until 4:00 p.m. next Tuesday to file his request for a recount in writing at the Branch County Clerk’s Office.
Houtz has to be notified within 24 hours and he has the option to file an objection.
A recount is tentatively scheduled to take place November 27, 2017.
Meanwhile, the Coldwater Mayor race became official Wednesday. Mayor Tom Kramer won reelection with 1,378 votes. Write in candidate Alexia Rish had 61 votes.
