COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Police say a man was arrested last night after a struggle with an officer outside a downtown gas station where the suspect was tazed before being handcuffed and taken into custody.
Sgt. Dave Crilly said he saw a car driving on US 12 without its headlights on around 9 p.m. and he stopped the 34-year old man’s car at Pierson Street, where the suspect pulled into the Citgo station. After learning the man’s license was suspended and had a record of multiple suspension convictions, Crilly attempted to handcuff the suspect. The man took off, and according to police, ran straight into the glass front door to the Citgo, thinking it was a push, instead of a pull open entrance. The glass shattered but there were no injuries reported.
The man was booked at the Branch County jail pending arraignment today on preliminary charges of resisting and obstructing a police officer and driving with license suspended.
