MATTESON TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A semi that was hauling hogs to Clemens Food Group flipped over Thursday morning in the far western part of Branch County.
Branch County Undersheriff Keith Eichler said during Thursday’s County Commissioners work session that the crash happened at about 9:50 a.m..
The driver did not suffer any serious injuries but an unknown number of pigs did not survive the crash.
The road was not blocked because of the crash. A large wrecker was called in to remove the semi and livestock trailers were brought in to haul away the surviving animals.
At the scene were the Branch County Sheriff’s Department along with the Bronson Fire Department, the Michigan Department of Transportation and representatives from the Clemens Food Group.
Oh my! This is terrible news. Those poor pigs were heading to gas chamber at Clemmens. The good news is those who survived may be sent back to the farm of origin because they were so distressed about the accident.
