OVID TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – Michigan State Police say a 68-year old Branch County woman was sexually assaulted in her home last night and a 34-year old suspect has been taken into custody.
State Police say the victim called 911 at 10:20 pm, telling the dispatcher she had been attacked by an acquaintance of several years who had been visiting her Thursday evening and reported that the man then fled the residence following the assault. When the trooper investigating the case reached the victim’s home, he was informed of the suspect’s name and address, also in Ovid Township, and a short time later, he made the arrest and the man surrendered without incident.
The woman was taken to the Community Health Center of Branch County and checked out by the hospital’s sexual assault nurse examiner. The victim was treated and released and returned to her home by State Police.
The suspect was booked at the Branch County Jail on a preliminary charge of first degree criminal sexual conduct. His name is being withheld pending arraignment in District Court.
