ATHENS, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Orioles varsity basketball team defeated former Big Eight Conference member Athens 60-22 on Friday night. Quincy had a 10-5 lead after the first quarter, sparked by Jimmy Maynard’s four points. Quincy ratcheted up the defensive pressure in the second quarter, outscoring Athens 25-5, taking a commanding 35-10 lead into halftime. Ryan Kempter paced the Orioles with six points in the quarter. The Orioles and Indians played a even third quarter, with Quincy having a slim 13-10 advantage, with Brandon Miner leading the charge with six points. Quincy outscored Athens 12-2 in the fourth quarter to finish out the game.
