Eric William Smotherman, 52, of Coldwater, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2020 at his home under hospice care.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Bethel Gilead Community Church. Pastor Jim Erwin will officiate.
Visitation will be held just before the service, beginning at 10:00 A.M., also at the church.
Eric was born November 10, 1968 in Chicago, IL to Joseph and Rebecca “Becky” (Bildner) Smotherman. He grew up in Coldwater and graduated from Coldwater High School in 1988.
For many years Eric worked as a commercial printer in the Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo areas. Two years ago, like a prodigal son, he moved back to Coldwater and his family after many years away.
Eric enjoyed deer hunting, mushrooming and fishing at the Union Lake dam. He attended Bethel-Gilead Community Church and touched many lives, despite his own lifetime of health issues that worsened over time.
Eric is survived by his parents, Joe and Becky Smotherman of Coldwater; his siblings, Kevin Scott (Deidre) Smotherman of Allen, Joseph Conrad Smotherman of Padukah, KY, Jeffery Thomas (Aoda) Smotherman of Marcellus, Anthony Clayton “Tony” Smotherman of Litchfield and Angela Jane Brouse of Rocky Mount, NC; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews, too.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Southern Care Hospice, 1965 Boardman Road, Jackson, MI 49202 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
