CFD says small fire at Midtown Motel apartment caused by air conditioner electrical short

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – An electrical short in a portable air conditioner is being listed as the cause of a small fire just after noon on Wednesday in one of the apartments at the Midtown Motel in Coldwater.

Fire Marshal Steve Trall says the Coldwater Fire Department along with automatic aide from Quincy Fire Department were dispatched to 224 East Chicago at 12:03 p.m..

Firefighters entered the occupied apartment and extinguished a small fire within 10 minutes. Damages were estimated at about $2,500. No injuries were reported.

The Coldwater Fire Department was assisted by the Coldwater Police Department, Lifecare Ambulance, the Branch County Victims Assistance Team, Michigan Gas and the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities.

Firefighters cleared the scene just before 1:30 p.m..
