HILLSDALE, MI (WTVB) – A Hillsdale man has been formally charged in Hillsdale County District Court after a Michigan State Police investigation into a Jefferson Township camper fire and armed standoff on Tuesday night.
Court records indicate 41-year-old Richard Vernon Kelley was arraigned Wednesday on charges of second degree arson, carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent, possession of firearms while under the influence and two counts of assaulting, resisting or obstructing a police officer.
Kelley was arrested and lodged at the Hillsdale County Jail for allegedly setting the camper on fire near the intersection of Grass Lake and Squawfield Roads and then barricading himself inside.
Bond has been set at $50,000. A probable cause hearing was scheduled for next Wednesday.
