BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – What has been a busy week for area firefighters got even busier on Wednesday morning when a fire broke out in a home that was in the process of being torn down.
The blaze at 626 East Southern Road was reported at 6:08 a.m.. Lakeland firefighters responded with mutual aid assistance in the form of tankers and manpower from the Fremont, Indiana fire department.
The temperature was just above zero with a wind chill of 17 degrees below zero when the fire broke out.
Lakeland Fire Chief David Smith says the empty two story farm house was fully involved in flames when they arrived. He says the property owners were in the process of preparing paperwork for the building’s demolition.
The cause of the fire and the amount of damage were initially not known. Firefighters were on the scene for over three hours. No injuries were reported.



Sadly our countryside is littered with what looks like landfills and junk yards instead of real estate properties. It’s a wonder there aren’t more fires
