Sandra Lou “Sandy” Batterson, 68, of Union City passed away Thursday, February 1, 2024 at her home under hospice care, surrounded by her loving family.
In keeping with Sandy’s wishes, she will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation, 1276 Tate Trail, Union City, MI 49094. Sandy’s brother, Pastor Randy Hughes, will officiate.
A memorial gathering will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2024, also at the Lighthouse.
Sandy was born on October 14, 1955, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to Harry and Betty Lou (Crawford) Hughes. She attended Loy Norrix schools in Kalamazoo and Battle Central High School, before earning her adult education certificate in Union City.
Sandy married Stephen Ray Batterson, on May 17, 1975, at the Coldwater Church of the Nazarene. They lived in Athens for a few years before moving to Union City in 1979.
She worked for several employers through the years including; ADL Home Care in Battle Creek as a home health aide, Harding’s Market in Union City, The Laurels of Coldwater, and Family Dollar in Union City.
Sandy enjoyed needle point sewing, crochet, helping with the baseball concession stand, and being a member of the Union City Fire Department Auxiliary. She was loving, caring, and protective. She will be greatly missed by all those who loved her.
In addition to her husband, Stephen, she is survived by her children, Stacy Zebell of Buchannon, MI, Stephen “Ray” Batterson, Jr., and Sara Fuller (Anthony McDonald) of Lima, OH; her grandchildren, Katie Zebell, Amelia McDonald, and Brianna McDonald; her siblings Randy (Paula) Hughes of Oshkosh, WI, Dean (Susan) Hughes of Mattawan, MI, Harry (Trish) Hughes, Jr. of FL, and Bryan Hughes of Kalamazoo, MI; her sister-in-law Kathy Batterson of Norwood, PA; her brother-in-law Robert Batterson of Battle Creek, MI; her several nieces and nephews; and Sandy’s special friend that was like a daughter to her, Rachael Keller (Terrance Swan) of Union City.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents.
