HASTINGS, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater boys cross country team scored an upset as they finished first at the Interstate Eight Cross Country Jamboree hosted by Hastings Tuesday. Harper Creek and Marshall, two of the better Division Two teams in the state, finished behind Coldwater.
The Cardinals were first with 57 points followed by Harper Creek with 61 points and Marshall with 64 points. The win by Coldwater puts them back in contention for the conference title, to be decided on October 21st at the Turkeyville cross-country course.
The Coldwater boys had four runners in the top 15. Shuaib Aljabaly again led his team and the entire conference field to the finish line. Ayash Ahmed was 10th while Kyle Foulk was 12th and Adam Bailey was 13th.
The Coldwater girl’s team finished fifth in the meet, led by Kathy Potter who was fourth and Elka Machan who was eighth.
The Quincy girls and the Jonesville boys were the winners Tuesday at the third Big 8 Conference Jamboree hosted by Reading at the Kimball Camp.
Quincy won the girls meet with 54 points as four of their runners finished in the top 15. Bronson finished seventh while Union City was eighth. Harmony Harpster was the top finisher for the Orioles as she was fifth. She was followed by Madelyn Allman who was sixth. Meri Michael was 11th and Avery Rufenacht was 15th.
Brenda Martinez was the top finisher for Bronson as she was 26th. Marionna Bigelow was 28th for Union City
Jonesville had the top two runners as they won the boys meet with 51 points. Bronson was second with 62 points. Quincy was fifth while Union City was seventh. Bronson freshman Luis Ortiz was seventh, Colin Ransbottom was eighth, Hunter Trine was 11th and Daniel Barajas was 14th.
Quincy’s Nathan Nohr finished third while teammate Ian Trall was 10th. Owen Needham was 31st for Union City.
