COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The father of an alleged victim in a dismissed criminal sexual conduct case has been charged by Branch County prosecutors after he and his daughter did not show up for the start of a jury trial in Branch County Circuit Court Tuesday.
The Coldwater man is facing two counts of obstruction of justice and a charge of interfering with a witness in a criminal case. He is free after posting a $35,000 bond. An arraignment has been scheduled for October 23, 2017.
We are not publishing his name in order to protect the identity of the alleged victim in the C.S.C. case.
19-year-old William Anthony Waters was facing three C.S.C. counts including a first degree charge before the case was dismissed without prejudice.
A court official said there were nearly 80 potential jurors who had to be sent home Tuesday.
