WASHINGTON, DC (WTVB) – A former aide for 7th District Congressman Tim Walberg and a one time Western Michigan University student continues to recover after he was seriously wounded in June as Republican members of Congress were practicing for a charity baseball game.
Walberg says Matt Mika is back to working half days with the rest of the time in rehabilitation. A nerve was taken out of his leg and put into an arm so he could regain feeling in his hand. Walberg thinks it will take a year for that to happen.
Walberg adds Mika is not getting down about what happened to him.
Mika was working as a lobbyist for Tyson Foods at the time of the shooting.
He had to be placed on a breathing machine after a bullet punctured one of his lungs.
