COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater Fire Marshal Steve Trall says a Sunday afternoon house fire at 104 East Barnhart Road was electrical in nature.
Coldwater firefighters along with automatic mutual aid from the Quincy Fire Department were dispatched to the property owned by Darryl Bontrager at 2:48 p.m..
Trall says the home was occupied at the time of the fire. Firefighters found heavy smoke and fire in a first floor bedroom next to the basement stairs when they arrived.
The fire was quickly knocked down with minor extension to the floor above. It took about 10 minutes to get the fire under control. Firefighters managed to contain it to the bedroom.
Union City firefighters were called for mutual aid and provided a tanker.
No injuries were reported. Damage was estimated at $20,000 to the home and $5,000 to the contents.
Also at the scene were the Branch County Victims Assistance Team, Consumers Energy and the Michigan State Police.
Firefighters were on the scene until 4:33 p.m..
