COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – After hitting a snag a couple of weeks ago, the Coldwater City Council approved a request Monday by the Department of Municipal Services to buy a truck-mounted leaf collection system.
Council members were not happy during the February 26 meeting with only one quote being presented.
D.M.S. Director Bob Granger said they went back and got three quotes. Two quotes of over $294,000 and over $301,000 were for machinery that would not be available until 2025.
He recommended the purchase of just over $321,000 for a single-engine truck-mounted leaf collection system that would be available for this fall.
Granger previously told the Council the new equipment was needed after the City had significant issues during the annual leaf collection process last fall as there were numerous equipment breakdowns, inclement weather, a late leaf drop and intermittent staffing shortages.
The staff recommended the purchase of the leaf collection system rather than
buying two budgeted replacement vehicles.
The quote was obtained from MTech which has locations in Grand Rapids and Livonia.
