UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – There is an opening on the Union City Community Schools Board of Education after David Mathis stepped down on Monday night.
Mathis was chosen from among eight candidates in October of 2020 to fill a vacancy on the board.
Board Secretary Jennifer Gautsche read Mathis’ brief resignation letter.
Board President Amber Herman had this reaction.
Mathis served the school district as a teacher at Union City High School between 1975 and 2005.
He was one of two winners for the Union City Citizen of the Year Award in 2023. He helped establish the award in the early 1980’s.
Mathis has also served as the pastor at the Living Hope Free Methodist Church in West Unity, Ohio.
Two years ago, he accepted an offer to bring Mathis Ministries to AbundantTV.
