NORTH WEBSTER, IN (WTVB) – The National Weather Service office in northern Indiana has issued a Flood Watch for northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio from Wednesday evening through Friday morning.
Forecasters say an active, wet period of weather is on the horizon for Wednesday afternoon through Friday.
Storm total rainfall amounts between one-and-a-half to two inches are expected with locally higher amounts of two to three inches possible. This rainfall combined with already moist soils will result in a renewed flood potential for the middle and latter portions of the week, along with rises on area rivers.
A few thunderstorms will also be possible Wednesday night into Thursday. In addition, it will turn quite windy for late Thursday into Friday with gusts as high as 40 mph possible.
Branch County is not included in the Flood Watch but it has been rainy recently. Since March 30, the M.S.U. Extension Service weather station at the Bloom Dairy Farm has measured almost two inches of rain.
While a Flood Watch remains in effect for portions of the area through early Friday morning, river flooding concerns will likely persist into early next week.
