COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A speeding vehicle led to the discovery of weapons and brass knuckles by the Michigan State Police on southbound I-69 in Girard Township on Saturday.
33-year-old William Robert Keating of Alto, Michigan was arraigned Monday in Branch County District Court on three weapons charges.
He was accused of carrying a concealed weapon and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm due to a 2021 domestic violence conviction.
According to Branch County court documents, State Police stopped the Nissan truck after it had been clocked going 91 miles an hour in a 70 MPH zone. Keating was a passenger in the back seat.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of the brass knuckles and two fully loaded weapons. One of the weapons was reported stolen by the Grand Rapids Police Department.
Bond was set at $50,000 and not guilty pleas were entered on behalf of the defendant. A probable cause hearing was scheduled for April 18 with a preliminary exam on April 24.
A thank you to our Michigan State Police. This may have prevented a lot of tragedy later on.
To walt and Jim measel and others including the MSP. Is this fella not subject to innocent til proven guilty? I’m confused on why I cant seem to find out who the driver was or any of the other passengers? When I read this I instantly thought this Mr.keating sounds like he’s being set up. Who else was in this vehicle? How many others in Nissan truck? why would this article not list the driver or anyone else in vehicle? So what was the reasoning for search? speeding? walt if your knees get any more dirt on them your wife is going to question what your really doing…I was not there but this sounds to me like 1 man is getting singled out…I will go get the police report its part of the freedom of information act and legal to do so. I have personally dealt with this new day of age officers and its not okay how they act. The police are suppose to protect and serve the people. It don’t work that way. The state police were always fairly straight forward. Break a law and they see it they get you. if you have a good reason or are straight with them they would work with you. Now they are security guards or at best small town chiefs and they all have this chip on their shoulder and if your not a pretty girl they are gonna try and ruin you…So your telling me the back passenger had 2 fully loaded firearms and a pair of brass knuckles? just walking around with a stolen gun? how does a gun get stolen from a police department? sounds like dirty cops….I have read the police report and it continues to just single Mr Keating and doesn’t say why? their were 5 men in that truck. they found 4 firearms. 2 pairs of brass knuckles. fron the sounds of it were no where near Keating…this makes me angry and that’s why I’m investing in it…as people we have completely taken ourselves and our future out of our hands and given it to the ones who want to keep us with none. we simply are given our rights away cuz they tell us it should be this way. this article is and this police report is complete slander of a man they don’t know or actually know he possessed anything. Two others were taken to jail and bonded out for a lot less money then him. 4 weapons found and none of them legally being transferred. shame on people who never think about the person who’s life they are ruining…
