COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater had to come from behind for their third victory of the season as they escaped with a 29-28 victory over Pennfield on Friday night at Cardinal Field. Coldwater trailed 21-14 at the half but the Cardinals tied the game midway through the final quarter. After a blocked punt, Logan Fee scored his second touchdown of the game from two yards out. Pennfield’s Troy Hinds put the Panthers back on top with a 40 yard touchdown but Coldwater pulled to within one with 1:34 left as Cole Targgart hooked up with Brady Beckhusen on a 27 yard TD pass. Cardinal Coach Jeff Schorfharr then decided to go for the two point conversion and Logan Fee ran it in for the winning points.
Our McDonald’s Players of the Game were Coldwater running back/defensive back Damon Beckhusen who finished with 170 yards rushing and Coldwater tight end/defensive end Brady Beckhusen. Targgart also threw a touchdown pass to Nathan Spray. The Cardinals are now 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the Interstate 8.
Quincy 35, Bronson 12
Quincy remained undefeated with a 35-12 win over Bronson. The Orioles are now 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the Big 8 while the Vikings drop to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the Big 8. The Orioles compiled 376 yards in total offense with 307 yards coming on the ground. Brandon Harrison rushed for 106 yards on 10 carries for Quincy. Ethan Cossairt scored both of the touchdowns for Bronson.
Union City 40, Springport 14
The Union City Chargers improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the Big 8 with a 40-14 victory over Springport at Alumni Field. Charger quarterback Josh Watson passed for 176 yards and four touchdowns while Austin Mosher rushed for 76 yards and two touchdowns. Larson Kever had four catches for 112 yards and two TD’s while Colton Johns made 11 tackles on defense.
