COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – With new COVID-19 restrictions in Michigan through at least December 8, the Branch County Historical Society has cancelled their traditional Christmas WASSAIL that was originally scheduled for Saturday, December 5.
According to a post on the Historical Society’s Facebook page, the allowable people count, masking, and social distancing have made the traditional Christmas event impractical to hold this year.
Numerous people attend a WASSAIL which features the sharing of baked goods and hot cider, traditional Christmas music and tours of the Wing House Museum. None of these activities are possible under the current pandemic restrictions.
Instead, the Branch County Historical Society is focusing on a Grand Opening of the Wing House Museum in the Spring of 2021 which is intended to include everything from the WASSAIL except the decorations and Christmas music.
The City of Coldwater’s website says the annual Christmas Holiday parade that was scheduled for Saturday, December 5 as well as all downtown holiday events that were scheduled for between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on that evening have been cancelled.
