SPRINGPORT, MI (WTVB) – It was a busy day Wednesday for Branch County high school cross country teams, as Coldwater, Quincy and Union City squads all competed at the Springport Invitational.
Coldwater’s boys came home with their first trophy of the season as they finished third in Class One behind Hanover-Horton and Marshall. Shuaib Aljabaly brought home a gold medal after running an outstanding early-season time of 15:26. Also medaling were Adam Bailey who was 18th and Kyle Foulk who was 20th. They both ran life-time best times.
The Coldwater girls finished fifth. Kathy Potter earned a bronze medal for Coldwater with a third place finish. Elka Machan also earned a medal as she finished fourth as did Cece DeWitt in 28th place.
The Quincy boys were third while the girls were second in the Class 2 races. Top Quincy finishers in the boys race were Ian Trail who was fifth in the boys race. Joshua Pepper was 15th,, Eric Butchart was 21st, Brock Martin was 26th and Carter Moore was 29th.
Three Quincy runners finished in the top ten of the girls race. Harmony Harpster was sixth while Madelyn Allman was eighth and Makenzie Blatter was ninth. In addition, Avery Rufenacht was 19th, Abby Strock was 21st, Jessica Holcomb was 22nd and Alyssa Smith was 30th.
Both of the Union City teams were sixth in the Class 2 races. Top Charger finishers were Bobby Hurley who was 11th in the boys race. Owen Needham was 23rd. Marionna Bigelow was 23rd in the girls race.
