MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater and Marshall will meet on the high school football field for the 68th time this evening in Marshall. The Red Hawks have a 47-18-2 record against Coldwater which includes a 17-7 victory last season at Cardinal Field. That ended a three game winning streak the Cardinals had against Marshall.
Tonight’s match-up is part of the first Bird Bowl, which will feature a soccer-football doubleheader. The 2017 Bird Bowl to benefit Marshall Area Community Services. One ticket gets fans into all three events.
The JV soccer match starts at 4:00 p.m. followed by the varsity soccer match at 5:30 p.m. The varsity football game starts at 7:30 p.m.
Fans are asked to bring in new socks to donate to MACS. In return for the donation, Marshall Community Credit Union and Oaklawn Hospital will provide event give-aways.
The Marshall Athletic Boosters will be hosting a tailgate for only $5. Money will also be raised through Bird Bowl t-shirt sales.
Both teams won their opening games last week. Coldwater defeated Lewis Cass of Indiana 27-0 while Marshall knocked off Jackson 35-34 in overtime.

In junior varsity football Wednesday night, Marshall topped Coldwater 20-0, as the Cardinals fall to 1-1 on the season.
Union City at Bronson
Bronson makes its debut in the Big 8 Conference debut tonight as they’ll host Union City. The Chargers opened their season with a 24-7 win over Galesburg-Augusta while the Vikings lost to Athens 7-0.
Quincy at Jonesville
Quincy travels to Jonesville to open Big 8 Conference play against the Comets. It will be the 68th meeting between the two schools with Jonesville holding a 38-26-3 edge over Quincy. The Orioles opened the season with a 12-0 win over Parchment. That marked the first time since 1978 Quincy had not opened the season against Bronson.
Quincy won the J.V. game over Jonesville on Wednesday 16-14. Dalton Messenger rushed for 148 yards and a touchdown for the Orioles. Chandler Locke scored the other TD for Quincy.
