COLDWATER, MI (WTVB AM/FM) – It was chilly and windy, but the overnight heavy rain cleared off to allow the annual Memorial Day ceremonies to be held at the Four Corners Park in downtown Coldwater, as well as Oak Grove Cemetery. U.S. Army Iraqi war veteran Tom Merkle said in the ceremony at Four Corners Park we should never forget those who have fallen.
The downtown ceremony was followed by a parade from the Four Corners Park to the Coldwater American Legion Post 52.
Following a ceremony for servicemen lost at sea and a service in the north section of Oak Grove Cemetery, “A Gathering of Flags War Memorial Ceremony” was held on the south side of Oak Grove Cemetery.
Thank You for Your Service Awards were presented to Alfred W. Woods, William H. Avery, William B. Carlson, Thomas Lothamer and Terry Wilber.
Memorial Day parades and ceremonies were held throughout Branch County on Monday. The Bronson American Legion Alderman-Luce Post 259 held a ceremony at the Bronson City Cemetery. Sherwood held a Memorial Day Parade as well as services at the Cemetery which was badly damaged by the recent tornado.
The Village of Union City and the American Legion Post 196 hosted the annual Union City Memorial Day Parade and Cemetery Service. The parade, which is one of the biggest ones in southwest Michigan, concluded at Riverside Cemetery where a service was held.
The Quincy American Legion hosted their annual parade through downtown Quincy. It was followed by a ceremony at the Lakeview Cemetery.
