COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) -It’s a day most Americans vowed to never forget
Branch County will hold a special memorial ceremony tomorrow to mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The solemn remembrance, organized by the Branch County Department of Veterans Affairs, is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Coldwater Veterans Memorial at Four Corners Park.
The timing of the ceremony is deeply symbolic; the Branch County Board of Commissioners plans to read a formal resolution honoring local residents connected to 9/11 and its aftermath, concluding at exactly 8:46 a.m. the precise moment the first plane struck the World Trade Center—followed immediately by a community-wide moment of silence.
Led by Branch County Veterans Service Officer Nick Easterling, the commemoration aims to recognize any local veteran who served during the tragedy or in the subsequent wars as well as those that were lost in New York, Shanksville Pa. and Washington D.C.
The event will feature a formal recognition from the office of U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg, highlighting specific local heroes.
Among those being honored are Cpl. Jacqueline Supianoski, a Marine Corps canine handler who worked explosive detection at Ground Zero and now serves the Coldwater Fire Department, as well as two fallen local Marines from Union City High School, Lance Cpl. Craig N. Watson and Sgt. Anthony D. Mattone, who lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan respectively.
Community members and local officials are encouraged to gather at the park to stand in solidarity and reflect on the enduring impact of the tragedy.
