COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council will be asked on Monday night to make the Rotary Park Redevelopment Project a three phase project.
The project was originally going to cover two phases. The City Council held a workshop on the project with its landscape architect on May 28.
City Manager Keith Baker says after reviewing the most recent plans, discussion began on whether it might make sense to break Phase 1 into two phases and move the boat slips and parking improvements to a “Phase 3” of the project.
It was felt that perhaps more citizens can use and benefit from completing the entire East side of the project first before proceeding with the proposed work on the West side of the channel.
Under terms of the resolution, the revised Phase 1 of the project would consist of a reconstructed boat launch, new public restrooms, new vehicle and boat trailer parking, a boat wash station, a renovated Gathering of the Flags Memorial concrete plaza, as well as a small fishing dock, parking, and a walkway on the north side of the bridge during the 2024-25 fiscal year.
Phase 2 would be for the remainder of the East side, consisting of the construction of a new picnic pavilion, fishing pier, boardwalk, a relocated ADA accessible kayak and canoe launch, and improved and increased vehicle parking for boaters and park visitors as applied for through a Michigan Department of Natural Resources Grant.
Phase 3 would consist of the optional construction and installation of about 20 rental and day use boat slips as well as parking and driveway improvements on the west side.
