COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved a request from City Manager Keith Baker on Monday night to make the Rotary Park Redevelopment Project a three phase project.
Original plans called for the project to be completed in two phases.
The decision to make it a three phase project came after the City Council held a workshop with its landscape architect on May 28.
Council member John Petzko was among those in favor of the three phases.
Mayor Tom Kramer felt more citizens can benefit from the completion of the entire East side of the project first.
Under terms of the resolution, the revised Phase 1 of the project would consist of a reconstructed boat launch, new public restrooms, new vehicle and boat trailer parking, a boat wash station, a renovated Gathering of the Flags Memorial concrete plaza, as well as a small fishing dock, parking, and a walkway on the north side of the bridge during the 2024-25 fiscal year.
Phase 2 would be for the remainder of the East side, consisting of the construction of a new picnic pavilion, fishing pier, boardwalk, a relocated ADA accessible kayak and canoe launch, and improved and increased vehicle parking for boaters and park visitors as applied for through a Michigan Department of Natural Resources Grant.
Phase 3 would consist of the optional construction and installation of about 20 rental and day use boat slips as well as parking and driveway improvements on the west side.
