QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Village Council is scheduled to hire a new police chief on Tuesday night.
A five person interviewing committee is recommending the hiring of Dalton Turmell by the Council.
Village Manager Brittney Butler says in a letter to the Council that over the last month they received several applications for the position from such places as Daytona Beach, Alaska and Iowa. There were also three local applications.
Turmell previously served for the Branch County and the Calhoun County Sheriff Departments.
The interviewing committee consisted of Council President Mike Hagaman, President Pro Temp Andy Craig, Village Resident Gary Abbott, Clerk / Treasurer Marci Clancy and Butler.
The Quincy Village Council decided in April to keep the village’s police department after a series of departures left the village with one officer.
In deciding to keep the police department, the Village Council accepted a proposal from Butler to increase the Police Chief salary without benefits from just over $61,000 to $70,000. When the benefits are included, the salary would increase to over $106,000.
