COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Bronson man was ordered to serve a prison sentence of between four and ten years on Monday in Branch County Circuit Court after he was charged in connection with a high speed police pursuit in a stolen vehicle in late January.
51-year-old Scott Allen Calloway entered a guilty plea on April 29 to second degree fleeing from a police officer.
In exchange for his plea, prosecutors dismissed charges of methamphetamine possession, receiving and concealing a stolen motor vehicle and assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer.
An habitual offender sentencing enhancer was also dropped.
Calloway was given credit for 150 days already served in the Branch County Jail.
Calloway was convicted in March of 2017 of third degree fleeing and eluding in Branch County Circuit Court.
According to Branch County court documents, Branch County Sheriff’s Deputies tried to pull over a 2016 Toyota Tacoma which was reported stolen out of Clinton County near U.S. 12 and Michigan Avenue.
After the City of Coldwater’s Automated License Plate Readers triggered an alert, Calloway allegedly fled from the scene. Speeds got over 100 miles an hour during the pursuit which ended in a field near Nash and Garfield Roads.
A probable cause affidavit says a couple of vehicles were cut off during the chase.
