QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy School Board approved a contract with Phyllis Gillette to be the district’s Interim Business Manager during a special meeting on Tuesday night. In addition, the board voted to suspend the pay of Business Manager Cheryl Globke and High School Principal David Spalding due to their pending criminal charges. All of the votes were unanimous.
The action came after they met in closed session for a half hour with Board Attorney Robert Huber.
Interim Superintendent Martin Chard said Gillette worked as a business manager in the Union City school district when he was the Superintendent there.
Globke and Spalding remain on administrative leave.
They along with former Superintendent Craig Artist are all facing criminal charges following a Branch County Sheriff’s Department investigation into their actions concerning sexual allegations against former teacher Jason Ferrell. Artist, Globke and Spalding are all free on bond.
Artist has been charged with a high court misdemeanor count of Public Money Safekeeping and a misdemeanor count of Child Abuse-Failure to Report. Artist resigned from his position last month. Spalding is charged with Child Abuse-Failure to Report while Globke is charged with Public Money Safekeeping.
Ferrell is facing criminal sexual conduct charges in Branch and Calhoun Counties in connection with an alleged sexual relationship with one of his female students. His Branch County Circuit Court case is scheduled for a status conference on August 14th.
