COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Unemployment rates went up across most of the area during the month of June.
The State of Michigan says Branch County’s seasonally unadjusted unemployment rate went up in June to 4.1 percent after being at 3.8 percent in May.
According to figures released by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget, Branch County had the 20th lowest jobless rate in June among the state’s 83 counties.
Saint Joseph County had the 15th lowest unemployment rate as it dropped slightly to 3.8 percent but unemployment rates in both Hillsdale and Calhoun Counties went up in June to 4.4 percent.
Michigan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in June fell over the month by four-tenths of a percentage point to 3.8 percent which is lowest for the state since August of 2000.
State officials say Michigan’s workforce recorded a drop of 29,000 over the month as the number of unemployed dropped by 20,000 and total employment declined by 9,000.
Michigan’s workforce level in June decreased for the second straight month after reaching an eight-year peak in April.
The Michigan June jobless rate was one percent below the state’s June 2016 rate of 4.8 percent.
