COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – High school classes in most of Branch County for the upcoming academic year begin in less than 3 weeks and at Coldwater High School, administrators are more excited than ever about the Early College program at CHS.
Coldwater High Principal Bill Milnes spoke Tuesday at the meeting of the Coldwater Noon Rotary Club, detailing the growth of the opportunities to bridge, in his words, the gap between high school and college. Milnes said the CHS Early College program is a path to earn college credits in a collaboration between the high school, the Branch Area Careers Center and Kellogg Community College Grahl Center campus in Coldwater.
He added there are certain fields of study that for any student who knows they are going to attend KCC, it makes perfect sense because there’s no disadvantage, no drawback, there’s no reason not to get involved in the program.
According to Milnes, there’s the existing dual enrollment coursework process for juniors and seniors taking advancement placement courses and also the Early College program providing financial support for a full year of college through KCC in a 13th year of school. 10th grade students get to apply to enter the program.
