BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – Mother Nature delivered yet another early wakeup call Thursday morning as early morning thunderstorms woke up some residents who were awakened by thunder and lightning 24 hours earlier.
Consumers Energy crews had to restore power for 116 customers south of Bronson following the storms which featured lightning, heavy rain and winds in excess of 40 miles an hour.
A National Weather Service observer in Angola reported heavy rain and winds between 30 and 40 miles an hour which knocked down tree limbs throughout the city. Another wind gust of 35 mile an hour was reported northwest of Sturgis.
The Branch County Memorial Airport recorded a wind gust of 29 miles an hour at around 3:00am.
Rainfall totals this summer have been several inches below normal but there has now been four straight days of rain.
Flood watches that were earlier issued for Branch and surrounding counties have since been lifted.
