David A. Erts, 80, of Sturgis, formerly of Coldwater passed away peacefully surrounded by family Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Thurston Woods in Sturgis.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater, officiated by Pastor Kurt Kuhlmann.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2024, from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home.
Interment will take place following the funeral service at Oak Grove Cemetery in Coldwater.
David was born on September 25, 1943, in Coldwater, MI to Clifton and Mary (Bennett) Erts. David married Janice (Schimke) on June 25, 1966.
He spent many years working as a draftsman, assisting with the design of many homes and commercial properties in the southwest Michigan area.
David was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Coldwater and a member of the Coldwater class of 1962. He was an accomplished member of the CHS wrestling team and cross-country team of 61-62. He was an avid lover of animals, spending much time bird watching and helping any creature he could, big or small.
David was a very warm and generous person and had a very distinct and contagious laugh. He was an enthusiast of hot sauces, loved watching U of M football and Detroit Redwings hockey. Above all, David was tirelessly devoted to his wife, kids, and family. Ever the pleaser, David wanted nothing more than to make his loved ones happy.
David is survived by his wife Janice Erts of Sturgis; his children Nancy (Gary) Misner of Lowell, MI; Matthew (Tina) Erts of Bear Lake, MI; Stephen (Rheta) Erts of Sturgis; his siblings Sharon (John) Derrickson; his grandchildren Evan (Sydnee Maxey) Erts; Rachel (Noah) Dunsmore; Elise (Ike Heeren) Misner; Kirstin Erts; Ansel Erts; his great granddaughter Eleanor “Ellie” Dunsmore; many loving nieces and nephews….and we can’t forget his beloved dog Otto.
In addition to his parents David was preceded in death by his Brother Gerald Erts and his sister Barbara Worden.
