COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater City Manager Keith Baker has officially been on the job now for three months and he delivered a State of the City address at Tuesday’s meeting of the Coldwater Noon Rotary Club.
Baker said considering what’s happened over the past few years, he’s looking to maintain what’s in place right now and short term, let the dust settle on a number of projects and determine where the city stands financially while continuing the excellent record of public services including from the police and fire departments and city hall.
He said there’s a focus on quality of life centering on the city’s parks, the downtown area, and the recreation department, all part of what helps attract people to the community from an economic development standpoint.
Baker said just like any community, Coldwater’s roads, along with water and sewer systems, need on-going maintenance while from a capacity and service standpoint, the city currently is in good shape. He described the streets as better than in other cities while admitting some are in poor condition and they will continue to be repaired over time.
As for what’s under the streets, with the old and always aging pipes that are the delivery system for water and wastewater services, the replacement costs are included in the city’s capital improvement plan.
