Richard Lloyd Moore, 69, of Coldwater, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, August 10, 2024 at the Laurels of Coldwater. He fought a long, hard, and courageous battle with cancer.
In keeping with Richard’s wishes, he will be cremated and the family will be hosting a memorial service on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the Tekonsha Church of God, 985 N. Main Street, Tekonsha, MI 49092.
The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City.
Richard was born on September 25, 1954, to Cecil and Tressie (Winn) Moore, in Coldwater, Michigan. He graduated from Union City High School with the Class of 1973. After graduation, he married Melanie Cole. The marriage ended in divorce, but they remained good friends.
He joined the U.S. Army in 1973, operating an M88 Recovery Tank with the 22nd Cavalry Armored Division. After his tour ended, he joined the National Guard, where he served with 1072nd Maintenance Company and was also a taxi driver in Texas. After leaving the military, he became a truck driver. His CB handle was Silver Fox. Richard drove semi-trucks for Hoekstra Trucking and then Miller Trucking of Tekonsha.
Once he retired from driving, Richard got a dog that he named Poopie, which he loved dearly. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pool, and loved to watch football with his good friend, Roy Findley. Melanie and Roy were Richard’s caregivers through his long illness.
Richard is survived by his ex-wife, Melanie Moore; his son Richard Taylor Moore of Coldwater; his daughter, Brandy Lee (Bill) Fleming of Coldwater; his sisters, Tressa Musselman of Athens, Roxanne (Jim) Clark of Coldwater, Jackie Moore-Zustin of Tekonsha, Kim Burton of Marshall, and Roxanne (Jim) Clark of Coldwater; his brothers, Garry Moore of Battle Creek, Joe (Teresa) Moore of Union City, and Matt Moore of Battle Creek; and his niece Keli Pope.
He was preceded in death by his by his parents and his in-laws, Lester and Loretta Cole.
Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
