JACKSON, MI (WTVB) – Consumers Energy says they hope to get most of their customers back on line by Sunday night following several rounds of severe thunderstorms which moved across Michigan Thursday night and early Friday. In some of the hardest hit areas, including Grand Rapids and surrounding cities, restoration work will continue into Monday.
Steady progress was made in restoration efforts Friday. As of early Saturday morning, more than 96,000 Consumers Energy customers were without power, down from 156,000 customers affected by several rounds of storms that brought down more than 2,000 wires statewide.
The hardest hit areas include Kent, Ottawa, Barry, Eaton, Muskegon, and Allegan counties. As of Saturday morning, 384 customers in Calhoun County were reported without power.
Over 1700 Consumers employees are engaged in restoration activities, with another 215 Great Lakes Mutual Assistance workers arriving on the scene beginning Friday night.
