COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Detroit man has been charged with allegedly trying to smuggle drugs to Lakeland Correction Facility prisoners in March of 2023.
A Branch County District Court arraignment was held for 38-year-old Derrick Lavone Herring Junior on Thursday on a charge of conspiracy to furnish contraband to prisoners.
According to Branch County court documents, he was captured on the prison’s video surveillance cameras throwing a package over Lakeland’s perimeter fence.
The package was later found to have contained over 300 packets of Suboxone as well as contraband cell phones.
A not guilty plea was entered on behalf of Herring. His personal recognizance bond was set at $10,000.
A probable cause hearing was scheduled for September 26 with a preliminary exam scheduled for October 3.
