ROGERS CITY, MI (WTVB) – A man who admitted to killing a woman from the Sherwood/Athens area last summer was sentenced Monday in Presque Isle County.
56-year-old Brenton Walker was given a sentence of between 45 and 70 years for killing 42-year-old Heather Chantele Young.
Walker entered a guilty plea to second degree murder and felony firearm last month.
He admitted in court at that time he shot Young and then described in graphic detail what he did to the body afterwards.
The web site www.upnorthlive.com reported Walker did not apologize for his actions saying that he had thought about murder before. He called Young a liar and a dope fiend.
Young’s relatives had harsh words for Walker. Her mother hoped he would live in misery and pain for the rest of his life. Her ex-husband said he would be happy to take him out and he hoped someone might do that for him.
The victims father, David Bentler, said the State of Michigan need to bring the death penalty back.
Walker laughed while Young’s family spoke in the courtroom.
Young used to live in Coldwater and Bronson.
She was killed July 30th, 2016 in or near Onaway. Her remains were later found near a home in Millersburg.
Young was visiting her boyfriend in the Northern Michigan community when they had a fight and she went to a bar where she met Walker. She left with him and was never seen alive again.
