COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – President Woodrow Wilson first proclaimed Armistice Day, commonly recognized as Veterans Day, November 11, 1919.
Coldwater’s American Legion Post 52 will host a free Veterans Day open house today to honor of all who have served in America’s armed forces.
The open house will begin at 10:30 a.m. with complimentary coffee and donuts.
The Coldwater American Legion Drill Team will perform a rifle salute at 11:00 a.m. to mark the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 when the armistice that ended combat in World War I took effect.
A brief program will follow featuring remarks from American Legion officers.
Federal, state, and Branch County offices are closed today, with no mail delivery. Some financial institutions are also closed.
The Coldwater Noon and Early Bird Exchange clubs will host a Prayer Breakfast for veterans Wednesday, November 13 at 8:00 a.m. at the Coldwater United Methodist Church.
