COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Sheriff-elect Fred Blakenship has his administrative staff in place as the Branch County Board of Commissioners formally approved a pay formula for the Sheriff’s Department new Undersheriff and Jail Administrator on Tuesday.
The Commissioners approved a proposal to have the Undersheriff and the Jail Administrator start at the three year salary level effective immediately. The same plan would be offered to other county departments.
Blankenship felt that the wages for these positions needed to be reviewed because road sergeants were making more than the Undersheriff and corrections officers were making about the same as the Jail Administrator.
It was also announced on Tuesday that Jason Bingaman will become the Branch County Undersheriff after serving as the Undersheriff in St. Joseph County and that Todd Riley who used to work for the Michigan Department of Corrections will become the Jail Administrator.
Bingaman ran for the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s office this year but finished second in the August Republican Primary.
Commissioners also formally approved a request on Tuesday made by the incoming Sheriff to have the new Undersheriff and Jail Administrator begin working as contracted employees.
Their rate of pay will be $30 per hour for a maximum of 40 hours per week, effective November 18.
