BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The Union City Chargers had a great start at Hudson’s Super 16 tournament on Friday night.
Eight Chargers went to the podium on the opening night of the event including Kaden Russell (120) and William Thompson (215) who won their respective brackets.
The Chargers also had three consolation champions. They were Maddie Hawthorne (106), Isaiah Waidelich (157) and Luke Cronkright (285).
Other place winners were Cameron Hummer (fourth at 165), John Olmsted (fifth at 175) and Jayden Dow (sixth at 157). The rest of the Charger squad will be in action on Saturday.
Michigan Grappler reports the Hudson Super 16 tournament features over 135 ranked wrestlers including 18 who are ranked number one in the state.
Meanwhile, five Bronson Vikings went to the podium at the Portage Northern Junior Varsity Invitational. Wyatt Weinberg and Briar Green won their weight classes while Bennett Pierucki, Joe Bir and Connor McClelland all finished in second place.
