COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) -Two suspects in the robbery of the Century Bank and Trust branch in Quincy just over a year ago entered into plea agreements with Branch County prosecutors Monday in Branch County Circuit Court.
33-year-old John Thomas Morgan and 30-year-old Nickole Collins were both scheduled to go on trial April 25th.
Morgan entered a no contest plea to a charge of bank robbery. Both sides agreed that his sentence will be between six and 25 years. In exchange for the plea, the rest of the charges as well as a sentence enhancement will be dropped. Morgan’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for May 22, 2017.
Prosecutor Scott Smith pointed out there was no weapon displayed during the robbery in March 2016. In addition, Smith said there was no violence, no threats and no police chase. He called the plea agreement an “appropriate resolution.” It was mentioned during Monday’s hearing that Morgan demanded and got over $5,500 in the robbery from the tellers.
Collins tearfully entered no contest pleas to unarmed robbery and larceny from a person. Unarmed robbery has a maximum sentence of 15 years while larceny from a person carries a maximum sentence of 10 years. All other charges and an habitual offender enhancement will be dismissed in exchange of the pleas. Collins is scheduled to be sentenced June 5, 2017.
