COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners brought forward a request during Friday’s work session from Branch Circuit Court Judge Bill O’Grady to compensate a non-union employee at a higher pay level who is covering for the Court Administrator out on maternity leave.
O’Grady says the Court Recorder and Clerk is covering for the managerial position which means that employee has been doing two jobs since December 1, 2024.
He added the employee who is doing double duty was just hired last fall.
Commissioners raised several questions and Tim Stoll felt more research was needed.
The Court Administrator who has been on maternity leave is expected to return in a week. Commissioners are scheduled to take formal action on Tuesday.

In all fairness shouldn’t all County employee’s pay be reviewed carefully including Commissioners. Unions are not without fault either. Most citizens don’t keep an eye on this but should. It is so easy to abuse government payout, accounting, etc in all governments as we have recently seen at the federal and state levels.
