VERMONTVILLE, MI (WTVB) – Quincy made the long road trip to Maple Valley and held off the Lions to earn a 58-52 win. The Orioles led 19-6 after the first quarter but saw that lead cut down to 6 at halftime, 27-21. Quincy opened the lead back up to 9 after three quarters, 41-32, and made key free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.
Corey Turner had 14 points, while Braylon Estlow had 12 and Ryan Kempter added 10.
The Orioles improved to 10-8 overall, 5-6 in the Big 8, and will host Climax-Scotts on Wednesday.
Elsewhere, Bronson avenged a 15-point January road loss at Springport by beating the visiting Spartans 68-43. The Vikings improved to 8-10 overall, 5-6 in the Big 8, tied with Quincy for fifth place in the league. They will take on Lawton Saturday afternoon at Portage Northern as part of the “Battle in the Igloo” showcase.
Union City improved to 12-5 overall, 8-3 in the Big 8, with a big 78-40 win over Reading at the McNett Fieldhouse. The Chargers visit Calhoun Christian Tuesday night.
And Tekonsha fell to 2-15 with a 48-10 loss at Hillsdale Academy.
