James C. Zabonick, 89, of Coldwater passed away Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Insight Hospital and Medical Center Coldwater.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, February 11, 2025, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at the First Baptist Church in Coldwater, with visitation beginning at 10:00a.m. and the service at 11:00 a.m.. Pastor Bob Ward will officiate the service.
Military honors will be presented by the American Legion Post #52 Drill Team, followed by interment at Oak Grove Cemetery.
James was born November 4, 1935 in Coldwater, MI to Charles & Mary (Teall) Zabonick. He graduated from Coldwater High School in 1953 and married the love of his life, Marilyn Sue Jones, January 11, 1958, in Union City, MI. Together, they recently celebrated 67 years of devoted love.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1960.
Jim worked in sales for 29 years at King Electric Supply in Coldwater. He had previously worked for Coca Cola, Pepsi, and Climax Corporation.
Jim was a member of the Coldwater First Baptist Church, the former Batavia Grange, and was a 50-year member of UCT. He served on the Coldwater Community School Board of Education and danced with the Merry Mixers Square Dance Club.
Jim was an avid sports fan, playing football, basketball and baseball in school, bowling in leagues and played semi-pro baseball with the Parshall Wildcats. He was actively involved in his boys’ many activities; coaching Little League Baseball, school and serving as a 4H leader.
Jim was an outdoorsman who enjoyed deer hunting, mushroom hunting, fishing, camping and snowmobiling. He was a dedicated husband and father, and he enjoyed friends and their weekly Friday night dinners for over 50 years.
Jim is survived by his wife Marilyn; his children Douglas (Kathy) Zabonick of Westfield, IN, Gregory (Stacie Hillier) Zabonick of Macomb; his brother Jerry (Janet) Zabonick of Coldwater; his grandchildren Bryan (Eric) Zabonick, Tyler (Samantha) Zabonick, Amanda (Joe) Pollak, Zakary Zabonick, Mitchell Zabonick; great grandchildren Aubrey, Bailey, Grayson, Jack and Kinsley.
He was preceded in death by his brother William Zabonick, and his beloved and loyal dog, Jake, who once bravely saved his life.
