COLDWATER, MI 9WTVB)- The Coldwater girls varsity soccer team opened up their season Friday night with a 3-1 win at home over Brooklyn Columbia Central. Senior Madison Marsh had two goals and an assist while freshman Olivia Foley had a goal and two assists in the win.
Whitney Johnson made six saves in goal for the Lady Cardinals.
The game was tied 1-1 at the half before Coldwater pulled away in the second half.
Coldwater will host Jackson High Monday, with the J.V. game at 5:00 p.m. and the varsity contest at 6:45 p.m.
In track and field, Coldwater’s boys finished second while the Cardinal girls were 12th on Friday at the EMU Relays in Ypsilanti. Lansing Sexton won the boys meet with 52 points followed by Coldwater with 49. The Cardinals Zack Murphy, Shuaib Aljabaly, Jacob Fair, and Jordan Parkinson.won the 3,200 relay while Connor Covert and Sam DeMeester were the top two finishers in the shot put. Jaden Coney was second in the long jump while Parkinson was sixth in the 1600. Murphy, Aljabaly, Adam Bailey, and Mohammed Saleh scored another first in the Distance Medley Relay.
In the girls meet, Coldwater’s Jasmine Wellet was second in the 60 meter hurdles, Hannah Parrish earned a fifth place medal in the Shot Put.
